This paper explores a novel method for displaying tactile information using thermal radiation. We present two systems: one using halogen lamps and the other using laser scanning. The laser-scanning system demonstrated significantly improved accuracy and speed in delivering thermal stimuli, enabling the creation of detailed and dynamic tactile experiences. Key findings include:
- High-Precision Thermal Control: The laser-based system achieved superior accuracy and speed in heat delivery compared to halogen lamps.
- Viability of Visible Light: Experiments confirmed the effectiveness of visible light for controlled thermal radiation.
- Human Sensitivity to Subtle Heat Changes: A virtual wall experiment highlighted the human capacity to perceive minute temperature variations.
- Non-Contact Tactile Feedback: The research successfully generated tactile sensations without direct physical contact.
- Virtual Spatial Region Creation: The method enables the creation of virtual spatial regions perceived as heat sources.
